Post-war, Carl became a well-known local softball player, married his sweetheart, Shirley (1950) at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, and became a devoted husband and loving father who always enjoyed helping others. Carl and Shirley became builder-owner-operators of The Manor Motel (1960-1984), where many of their guests became long-time friends. Carl later retired from the Cleveland Institute of Art as Operations Manager (1995) and became an avid creator of beautiful hand-hooked rugs, many of which were his own vision and design. Moving to St. Cloud, Florida he enjoyed playing baseball once again, while calling games from the scoring booth he shared with Shirley when not playing. In 2003 they returned to Westlake, living out their remaining time together with their growing family and friends.
