Carol Lee (Jones) Marcy, 86, passed peacefully at home in the presence of the Holy Spirit and surrounded by family on March 1, 2023 in Columbus after a courageous five-month battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Carol Lee Jones was born August 10th, 1936 in Massillon, Ohio. She was a proud member of the Washington High School Tigers Class of 1954.

An accomplished pianist and organist, Carol accompanied her highly-ranked high school choir for three years, including Handel’s Messiah and spring musicals each year. She was on the Debate Team and was elected Attorney General at Buckeye Girls State.

She graduated from The Ohio State University College of Education in 1963. Her love and devotion to teaching led her to elementary schools in Circleville, Bexley and Columbus City Schools. She retired from Columbus Winterset Elementary in 2004, where she was the beloved “M & M” teacher. She was a reading specialist and was honored with a named reading area, “Marcy Lane.” Outside her classroom window, a parent of a student planted a tree in her honor.

While students at OSU, Carol met Lou Marcy, a pharmacy student, on a blind date. They were married on June 19, 1965. Carol was a lifelong Lutheran and with Lou they became members of the Upper Arlington Lutheran Church. At UALC, she taught Vacation Bible School, Listening classes and served as a Lector. They strongly treasure their 30+years with their beloved SALT Group (Sharing and Living Together). Carol enjoyed book club, euchre groups and her Holy Spirit study group.

Carol and Lou loved to travel. They enjoyed Italy, especially Rome, Florence and Tuscany. They also traveled to Austria, Germany and Hungary. They loved taking trips to Washington D.C. with granddaughter Mackenzie Grace Rowe to visit the Centreville, VA Marcy’s, brother Tom and sister-in-law Marilyn. Sanibel Island FL was a regular vacationing destination for the Marcy Family. Carol loved pies, especially a good tart lemon meringue pie!
