Charlie graduated from Cleveland Marshall Law School in 1986, and for most of his legal career worked in civil litigation in the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor's Office. He met his future wife, Cheryl, while they were students in law school, and they would later marry in June 2008. From the Bourbon Trail to moss-covered castles in Ireland, Charlie and Cheryl cultivated a life of adventure and faith for one another, all while Charlie's favorite band, the Beatles, played in the background.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl (Luoma), and three caring stepchildren, Chris, Robyn, and Lydia (Chris Bunder) Tuttle, as well as his sisters, Ellen (Patrick) Sheeran, and Beth (Hugh) Blocksidge.
