Below is the death notice of Diana Gassaway, Mother of Edgerton Langley, Class of 1978. Please keep the Langley and Gassaway families in your prayers.
Diana K. Gassaway, 85, peacefully departed this world on Sunday, September 3, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Boddie, Sr. and Willie Boddie, as well as her beloved siblings Clifford, Jr., Rochelle, Wilhelmina, and Yvonne.
Diana's journey began on April 6, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio. Throughout her remarkable life, she pursued a diverse array of careers, each reflecting her deep curiosity and determination. She dedicated several years as a clerk in the Cleveland Municipal Courts, serving various judges. Diana also engaged in political campaigns, with Mayor Carl Stokes being her favorite. Her passion for civic roles extended to a decade-long commitment as a secretary and school librarian in the Cleveland City School District. Prior to this, she contributed her skills to the electric company and spent 10 years in the retail world as a cashier at Bi-Rite and Drug Mart. Her final employment spanned 16 years at Palm Crest Bellaire, where she and her partner in crime, her sister Ruby Jones, wholeheartedly cared for their patients.
Diana was renowned for her unwavering work ethic, sometimes juggling multiple jobs to make ends meet, including domestic work on the side. She continued to labor diligently until the age of 70, always placing others' needs before her own, exemplifying limitless dedication in her service.
Diana's deep-rooted faith in the Lord was a defining aspect of her life. She actively participated in every church to which she belonged, offering her unwavering commitment.
In her leisure moments, Diana found joy in photography, never without at least three cameras in tow. She was an avid painter and artist, showcasing her exceptional creativity in her diverse works of art. Her keen artistic eye could breathe life into any canvas or paper. Furthermore, Diana possessed a remarkable sense of fashion, always impeccably color-coordinated.
She is survived by her son Edgerton Langley (Le Marquis Gassaway), her daughter Jameelah K. Seals, her siblings Sidney Boddie and Willie Boddie (Wanda), along with her first cousin William Boddie (Carmen) and Clara Parker (Rev. Melvin Parker). Diana also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a multitude of loving friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Family and friends are welcome on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 11 a.m. until time of Homegoing Service 12 p.m., at Slone & Co. Funeral Directors 13115 Lorain Ave. Cleveland, OH 44111.
