In Memoriam
Below is the death notice of Donald Martosko, Class of 1964. Brother of Thomas Martosko, Class of 1969. Please keep the Matrosko family in your prayers.
Donald M. Martosko, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Thursday, September 22, 2022. Don was born on February 24, 1946, in Cleveland, OH. He attended Blessed Sacrament catholic school and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1964. He was a talented swimmer and lifeguard. He loved to tell the story of having met the Beatles when he worked in the men's department at Higbees in 1965. He fought in the Vietnam war from 1968-1969. He studied at The Ohio State University and his career in engineering took him all over the world until he settled in Pittsburgh, PA in 1998. Don loved cooking and gardening. His specialties were Italian dishes and Thanksgiving dinner. Don loved collecting stamps and pipes. He restored many pipes and coordinated donations of pipes and tobacco to the active military troops overseas. He loved to go fishing and was an avid participant in bass tournaments. He was a great chess player. In his later years, his disability limited his activities but he never lost his sense of humor. Don was a man of strong faith and we take comfort knowing that he is with God. Those who knew Don will always remember his silly laugh and funny jokes. Son of the late Stephen and Viola (Prandi) Martosko, Don is survived by his former wife of 40 years, Kathy Martosko; his children, Dr. Michele (Karl) Pietrzak and David (Susan) Martosko; and his siblings Barbara (Chuck) Linder and Thomas Martosko. The light of his life were undoubtedly his four grandchildren- Adam, Luke, Lillian, and Evelyn. They made his heart full. He loved them so very much and was a very proud Grampy. The family would like to especially thank Stacie and David Waddingham for their years of care and dedication. Don was very blessed to have generous friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. Jack Porter and the staff of the John Syka funeral home for their gentle care and outstanding professionalism at this difficult time. There will be no visitation. A ceremony of military honors will take place for Don at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 2:30pm. Interment of his cremated remains will follow. Don loved his canine best friends Lucky and Bud dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the K9s for Warriors.
