Eileen Carey Hewitt

In Memoriam

Below is the death notice of Eileen Hewitt, Sister of the late Daniel Carey, Class of 1969, Francis Carey, Class of 1973 and Richard Carey, Class of 1979. Mother of David Hewitt, Class of 1989. Please keep the Carey and Hewitt families in your prayers.

Eileen Carey Hewitt, 71, of Rocky River, Ohio passed away on September 21, 2023. The second oldest of nine children to the late Ned and Catherine (Spellacy) Carey, Eileen was born on June 5, 1952. She will be remembered fondly by her Carey siblings Joanne, Francis (Culeen), Rita, Christine (Brian Tilow), Richard (Colleen), and Judy. Eileen was preceded in death by her brother Dan Carey and her sister Margaret Rudy (Robert - deceased).

Being a part of a large Irish Catholic family, Eileen had over fifty first cousins who she cared deeply about. She was a cornerstone of her family, frequently organizing opportunities to get together and have fun. Other than a period of time living in Cincinnati, OH and Stone Mountain, GA, Eileen’s home has always been Rocky River and was a graduate of St. Christopher School and Magnificat High School. In 1995, Eileen was honored as the Class of 1970 representative of Magnificat’s “40 Years - 40 Women” Celebration.

Eileen was married for 50 years to her husband, Harry, and was so proud of her three children David (Stephanie), Kara Tolentino (Mark), and Meg Kennedy (Roger). Beyond her role of devoted wife and mother, Eileen’s joy was found in her eight beloved grandchildren (Olivia, Riley, and Jonah Hewitt, Ellie, Ryan and Abby Tolentino, and Leo and Grady Kennedy) who were regularly spoiled by their “MeeMee”. She also cherished each of her eleven nieces and nephews, and many godchildren.

Eileen's energy, generous spirit and laughter would brighten any room she entered. She loved a good party and a quick wit. She was the first to jump in and help to organize and assist friends and neighbors. An active volunteer in her parish - first St. Christopher and later St. Colman - and with various charitable organizations, Eileen was a person for others and was always the first to bring a meal, offer a ride, assist with a medical appointment, plan a visit, share a story, or offer home decorating suggestions. She was a friend to all she met. Eileen deeply valued all of the special people in her life, and they loved and valued her.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 29th at 11am at St. Colman’s Church - 2027 W 65th St, Cleveland, OH 44102.

Friends and family are welcome to call at The Berry-McGreevey Funeral Home - 26691 Detroit Rd., Westlake, OH 44145 - Thursday, September 28th from 3-7pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eileen’s memory to the non-profit Rec2Connnect (http://rec2connect.org) or the St. Colman’s Outreach Ministry (https://www.stcolmanchurch.org/co).
