In Memoriam
Below is the death notice of Francis T. Cullen, Class of 1965. Please keep the Cullen family in your prayers.
FRANCIS T. CULLEN, passed away Aug. 17, 2024, aged 76 years. The beloved husband of Carole (nee Blitz), dear father of Brendan P. (wife Jeannette) and Bridget A., loving grandfather of Teagan and Caitlin, devoted son of the late Frank and Mary Rita (nee McNeela), cherished brother of Mary Doepker, Marge Chmura and Liz Moro. Mr. Cullen was a United States Navy Veteran.
Frank Cullen grew up on W129th in Cleveland then moved to Lakewood where he proudly went to St. Edward high school. After graduation he went off to the Navy Reserves, where he was on active duty during the Vietnam War. After serving he worked for a radio station, channel 43, Gould (they made torpedoes, so he could never come to career day at school) , and lastly Libra Industries as a technical writer.
Frank was a member of several ham radio clubs and CAYOMAW, a singles club where he met Carole Blitz. One night they met up at her apartment to make christmas cookies and on that night he decided he was going to marry her, he even told her so. They dated for about a year and a half before marrying on July 9th 1977. They moved into a house in South Euclid in 1978 where they had two children, Brendan in 1980 and Bridget in 1982.
Frank was a family man, he loved his parents, 3 younger sisters, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He did Indian Guides and Boy Scouts with Brendan, and took Bridget every Halloween to look at decorations for his yearly display on the front lawn of his house. He only set up at night so the kids walking to school would see new stuff every morning. One night as Carole was coming home from work and saw a display from the corner of the street at the stoplight and thought how nice it was that someone was decorating for Halloween. As she approached the house she realized that it was her house and could not stop laughing.
Frank enjoyed family gatherings, and when anyone would come to the house to visit. He was known for his reminiscing, and telling the best stories from his life. He was a ham radio operator, general class, for the majority of his life as WB8JWE. He enjoyed building things with his kids including a potato gun with an adapter for an air tank so you could shoot the potatoes all the way to the nearby park. Frank passed away early in the morning on Saturday August 17th in his house, in his own bed, with his family, exactly as he wanted. He was loved by all and will be missed by many.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish at 11 AM. Please meet for the Burial with Military Honors on Tuesday Aug. 27, at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (Seville) at 10:45 AM.
