In Memoriam
Below is the death notice of John "Jack" Flanagan, Class of 1965. Brother of Terrence Flanagan, Class of 1966, Michael Flanagan, Class of 1970 and Marc Flanagan, Class of 1973. Please keep the Flanagan family in your prayers.
John Flanagan age 76, passed away peacefully at the Hospice of the Western Reserve on May 30, in the presence of his beloved wife, Shirley Lokar Flanagan (nee Papalko) and his family. Jack was the oldest of eight children of John Flanagan (deceased) and Kathryn Flanagan (deceased). He was preceded in death by his brother Eddie (Lisa). He is survived by his siblings Terry (Sue), Kathy Roche (Pat), Mickey (Maureen), Marc, Mary Clare (Lori), and P. J. (Maureen), and by his stepdaughter, Jessica Crawford (Michael) and her children Morgan, Gavin, and Brooklyn. Jack celebrated a long career as an employee of the Cleveland Municipal Court. He was a veteran of the Ohio National Guard. Jack participated in the Tower City barbershop singers, and enjoyed coaching sports at Bay High School and at St. James grade school. He nurtured the love of music in his family and friends. You could always count on Jack to lead the crowd in a pitch perfect version of any barbershop classic, including "Show Me the Way to Go Home" which he sang hours before he passed away. Jack and his brothers sang the Irish Blessing at many Flanagan weddings, funerals and campfires. We will be forever flummoxed by Jack's profound musical question: "Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavor on the Bedpost Over Night?". After his graduating from St. Edward High School in 1965, Jack went on to college where he met his beloved Shirley in 1967. They reunited and married in 2018, after which their faith in God and love for each other were apparent to all. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Clarence Catholic Church, 30106 Lorain Rd., North Olmsted beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4. A viewing will be held in the gathering area of the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the mass. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon.
