In Memoriam
Below is the death notice of John "Jack" McGinty, Father of Timothy McGinty Class of 1969 and Kevin McGinty, Class of 1975. Grandfather of Patrick McGinty, Class of 2004. Please keep the McGinty family in your prayers.
JOHN P. McGINTY “Jack” (age 94)
Beloved husband of 72 years to Alice (nee Houlehan), whom he met while she was working at Bailey’s Department Store in Lakewood. Dear father of Timothy (Ellen), Mary Kay (Bill Weston), Sheila, Kevin (Ellen), and Tricia (Jim Bittel). Loving grandfather of Billy, Johnny, Kevin Weston, Kathleen (Josh Basen), Patrick (Ashley) McGinty, Sean and Jackie Delay, Grace, Cara, Kate, and Clare Kelley, Caitlin and Aiden McGinty. Great-grandfather of Jacob and Abby Basen, and Liam Weston. Brother of Edward McGinty of Kent Island, Maryland. Son of the late Patrick and Helen Gallagher McGinty of Dooniver and Doogort, Achill Island, Ireland. Son-in-law of the late Herbert John and Irene Murphy Houlehan.
Jack was a loyal fan of all Cleveland sports beginning when he sold programs at League Park for Indians games. Jack was proud to be there for the championship in ‘48 and for the Browns in ’64. His favorite nights were spent at the ballpark with his wife Alice, telling stories to his many friends, and spending time with his grandchildren. After graduating high school he attended Fenn College and worked as a chalk boy at the Cleveland Stock Exchange. He then went on to work at McDonald & Company (UBS) for a record 70 years while volunteering his time as a board member of the Cleveland Catholic Charities. Many enjoyed a lunch or two with him while at Vincenza’s during the work week.
Jack passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on October 23rd, 2022. The McGinty family is grateful to all of Jack’s caregivers at home, and at the Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Visitation at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home of Lakewood, 14133 Detroit Ave, Friday October 28th, 3-7 PM. Funeral Mass Saturday at St. Luke Catholic Church at 10 AM. Interment Lakewood Park Cemetery.
