Below is the death notice of Leo Peter Wadden, Class of 1954. Father of Donald Wadden, Class of 1977. Grandfather of John Wadden, Class of 2017, and Matthew Wadden, Class of 2025. Please keep the Wadden family in your prayers.

Leo Peter Wadden “Pete” , 86, of Vermilion, Ohio passed away on March 12 th ,2023.

Pete was proceeded in death by his wife Carol Wadden (Schoch). Pete and Carol were married on August 30 th , 1958. They would celebrate their 55 th wedding anniversary just prior to Carol’s passing in 2013.

Pete attended grade school at Saint Clement’s and graduated from St. Edward High School In 1954. Upon graduation, he began what would be his lifetime career as a butcher. First working for his father, Leo Wadden, at Wadden Meats located in downtown Cleveland on Boliver Ave. He then went to work in the Meat Cutters Union where he would continue his career for 42 years.

Pete and Carol raised their family in Lakewood, Ohio, and enjoyed their summers at their cottage in Vermilion at Linwood Park. Carol worked at her family’s business, Bobson Hardware. Upon retirement, they moved to Vermilion where they would enjoy countless sunsets together and impromptu gatherings on their front porch with neighbors and family.

Pete loved sports, Football, Baseball, and Golf but none more than racing sailboats. He loved being on the water, the outdoors, and competitive sailboat racing with his friends and family.

Pete is survived by his children Don (Deb), Cheryl Mravec (Jim), Robert (Christine), and Patrick (Susan); dear grandfather of Peter, Kayla, Dan (Shawna), Ella, Megan, Jack, Reilly and Matt ; adoring great grandfather of Olivia.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Vermilion Sail Education Foundation https://www.sailfoundation.org/ or to St. Edward High School.

There will be wake at McGorray-Hanna Funeral Home in Westlake, Ohio on Thursday March 23 rd with calling hours from 3pm-7pm and a celebration of Pete’s life at Vermilion Boat Club on May 13 th .
