Linda L. “Lynn” Gerl, 80, passed away Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, at Mapleview Country Villa in Chardon, Ohio.
Lynn was born Feb. 1, 1944, in Cleveland, the daughter of the late John L. and Minnie (nee Krall) Gribbons.
She leaves behind her husband, Michael J.; daughter, Christine L. (Todd) McManamon; son, Michael D. Gerl; grandchildren, Colin, Daniel and Kelly McManamon; sisters-in-law, Marie Kebe and Maxine (Don) Douglas; and many nieces and nephews. Lynn was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jaqueline Gribbons; father and mother-in-law, Max and Mary Gerl.
Lynn grew up in the city of Euclid, where she was a 1962 graduate of Euclid High School. She attended Jane Adams Vocational School in Cleveland, and worked as a dental assistant for various dentists in Cleveland and Willoughby. She moved to Willoughby and met her husband, Mike. Lynn lived in Willoughby for 33 years and then she and Mike built their dream home in Leroy Township. In the early years of their marriage, they traveled to her favorite two week vacation spot, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. She also enjoyed spending many weekends during the summer at their place in Chautauqua Lake, N.Y.
Most of all, she loved watching and supporting her children’s sporting events and activities up through their high school years. Later in life, that same love and support went to their three grandchildren. Her and Mike loved spur of the moment road trips, cruises and wintering at their home in Nokomis, Fla. One of her highlights was a Mediterranean cruise for their 50th anniversary. During her spare time, Lynn loved to read, enjoyed meeting people and was always interested in their lives. For many years, she was a volunteer at the Discovery Shop in Chardon. She was a great homemaker, excellent cook and loved to dance, especially to Slovenian polkas and waltzes. Lynn was the best friend and the love of life to her husband.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Home, 38001 Euclid Ave., Willoughby, with a Celebration of Life Service at 7 p.m.
A Prayer Service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Entombment will follow the Prayer Service at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township.
