Below is the death notice of Dr. Lyle Pauer, Class of 1959. Father of David, Class of 1982, Timothy, Class of 1987 and Phillip, Class of 1990. Brother of Jay, Class of 1953, John, Class of 1963(deceased), and James, Class of 1970. Please keep the Pauer family in your prayers.
Lyle Pauer, Ph.D., a respected physicist and innovator, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 1, 2024. Born on March 16, 1941, Dr. Pauer's life was defined by his exceptional intellect, dedication to science, and a profound commitment to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Veronica (Ronnie) Pauer (née Smith), his son David (Maria), daughter Deborah (Matthew), sons Timothy (Annisa) and Phillip (Aya); grandfather of Isabela, Olivia, Alex, Gabriela, Gabriel, Kate, Antonio, Bennett and Naomi, and a legacy of pioneering work in aerospace and defense technologies.
Dr. Pauer was a proud graduate of Notre Dame University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science, He then earned a master's degree from John Carroll University before completing his Ph.D. in physics at Case Western Reserve University. Over his distinguished career, he made significant contributions to the field of aerospace, earning four U.S. patents and holding prominent positions at several leading aerospace firms, including Lockheed Martin, where he culminated his career as a senior physicist. His expertise in sonar, submarine simulation, and aircraft missile defense led him to become the first technical director on a DARPA program focused on developing combined optical and radio frequency communication systems for secure, reliable communication between aircraft and ground stations.
Dr. Pauer's colleagues and family will remember him for his brilliant mind, innovative spirit, and enduring warmth. He was a gifted scientist whose work pushed the boundaries of aerospace technology and a loving husband, father, and mentor. His family, friends, and colleagues will deeply miss his wisdom, humor, and unwavering dedication.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at St. Basil the Great Church, 8700 Brecksville Road, Brecksville, OH 44141 at 1pm with a visitation at 12:30pm until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be forwarded to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society http://www.lls.org/donate or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, P.O. Box 72101 Cleveland, OH 44192. Interment on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 2pm in Holy Trinity Cemetery, 2886 Jaycox Road, Avon OH 44011.
