Mary Jane Daugherty Eifel of Irish decent had a brother Jack and sister in law also named Mary Jane . Their time of growing up were shadowed by the Great Depression and World War II . Mary was a self made women working in her early twenties at the Alcoa company located in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Her boss hired her for her photographic memory. She travelled extensively in Europe and Ireland… kissing the Blarney Stone. Mary met Edward Eifel at Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio and they enjoyed dancing together in their ballroom. They married on June 23,1956 and had 2 boys & 2 girls. They were active parishioners of St Angela Merici. She was a great mother, homemaker, and a grateful and humble person. As a mother she instilled lessons of saving money, never throw anything away, and never steal. We still remember the stories behind those lessons and are forever grateful for her testament of faith. Mary was devoted to prayer and the rosary. She was a devoted spouse and care taker to her husband until his death in 1998.
Her grand children can tell you Grammy Eifel enjoyed going for car rides, sleep overs, turkey pickled sandwiches, and root beer floats. As an active member of senior life, she fascinated us with her tai chi moves. Mary Jane was an avid collector of news, current events and a huge fact checker. The family would be remiss not to mention Mary Jane’s love for Malley’s chocolates and ice cream.
The last part of Mary’s life was spent at Rocky River Village in their assisted living area and then in their memory care unit. Mary never forgot her family and was know as a “sweet soul” of Rocky River Village.
We are grateful to the Rocky River Village staff for their dedicated care and to Gentiva Hospice for their care in Mary Jane’s final days .
