Michael T. Stump

In Memoriam

Below is the death notice of Michael T. Stump, father of Alex Stump, Class of 2015. Please keep the Stump family in your prayers.

Michael T. Stump of Avon, passed away on February 9, 2024 at Ames Family Hospice, Westlake at the age of 62. Born in Toledo on June 10, 1961 to Gerald and Regina Stump (both deceased), Mike is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laura (Bores); and sons, Erik (Erin), Adam (fiancée Alexi Worley) and Alex. Also survived by mother-in-law, Arlene Bores; sister-and brother-in-law, Lynne and David Wolf; nephew Stephen (Melinda) Wolf; nieces Julia (Scott) Casbarro and Meredith Wolf; four great-nieces and nephews; best friend Pat Collins; aunt Judy Stump; uncle Tom Hart; and numerous cousins. Mike and Laura's first grandchild is due in March.

Mike graduated from Bowling Green State University and Baldwin Wallace University and embarked on a long career in purchasing and supply chain management, most recently with Bendix in Avon, Lincoln Electric, Freudenburg NOK, General Electric and Parker Hannifin. He was passionate about his career and was most proud of mentoring others, leaving a lasting mark on countless co-workers at every company where he worked.

A life-long sports nut, Mike loved coaching his sons in Little League, travel baseball, and CYO and AAU Basketball. He then continued to pass on his knowledge and enthusiasm as a baseball umpire and basketball referee. He was the scorekeeper for the Lake Erie Crushers for three years. Mike became a fan of the Green Bay Packers during the Bart Starr years in the 1970s, and followed the Browns, Cavs, and Indians.

Mike loved classic rock and enjoyed attending concerts, laid back beach vacations, and a new-found appreciation of Kentucky bourbon.

Family, friends, and co-workers will miss his booming voice, words of advice and encouragement, and sincere concern for their well-being.

As Mike would say, he "kicked the can" for 7 years undergoing treatments and participating in clinical trials at the OSU James Cancer Hospital to treat a rare neuroendocrine cancer. The family wishes to thank the OSU Neuroendocrine Cancer Team for their caring expertise. Also, the staffs at Avon Jacobs Cleveland Clinic (3rd floor east) and Ames Family Hospice for their excellent care over the past month. A special thanks to Azizeh from Griswold Home Care.

The family requests no flowers. Please consider a donation in Mike's name to the Neuro Endocrine Tumors Research and Program Fund at OSU at https://go.osu.edu/mikestump.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February12, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at the MISENCIK FUNERAL HOME, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon. A funeral Mass will be held at HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Interment will be private.
