In Memoriam

Below is the death notice of Nancy Michael, Mother-in-law of Gregory Hildebrandt, Class of 1975. Grandmother of Ian Hildebrandt, Class of 2012 and Alex Hildebrandt, Class of 2014. Please keep the Hildebrandt family in your prayers.

Nancy M. Michael (nee Tinkler) age 93 passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Joseph; loving mother of David (Marilyn), Meg Hildebrandt (Greg), Marie Leone (Denio), Anne Daly (Glenn), and Mary Therese Konrad (Kevin); cherished “Grandest” to Sarah Ianni (Ricky), Joseph Michael (Mary), Elizabeth Evans (Andrew), Ellie, Ian (Samantha), and Alex Hildebrandt, Annie, Mary, Denio (Maegan), and John Leone, Mary Therese and Patrick Daly, Katie and Michael Konrad; great-grandmother to Dominic, Anthony, Francis, Theodore, and Denio. Nancy is preceded in death by her siblings Sally McNicholas, Mildred Hernan, and Tom Tinkler and leaves behind her sister-in-law Shirley Tinkler. She also leaves her friend and daughter from afar, Heather Paterson. She was a beloved aunt and great aunt to many, in later years known as the matriarch of both the Michael and Tinkler families.

Nancy spent most of her life in Youngstown, Ohio, graduating from Ursuline High School in 1948. She worked as a bookkeeper at Ty Steel; Saint Dominic Parish, where she and Joe were longtime parishioners; and later at the Juvenile Justice Center of Youngstown. Nancy had many friends through all walks of life, especially her childhood friends whom she remained close to for nearly 90 years. She was known as the “instigator of fun” and a master joke teller. Nancy and Joe welcomed so many to their home where guests were often greeted with one of Nancy’s homemade pies and a cup of coffee. Her family will always cherish their weeks at “Grandma’s Lake.”

Nancy had endless energy. She organized many Ursuline High School and Tinkler family reunions. Nancy was an avid and talented duplicate bridge player and became a gold life master in 2010. She traveled extensively, joining her bridge friends at many tournaments and accompanying her dear friend, Reverend Joseph P. Allen O.P. on many pilgrimages. She was also a life-professed member of the Lay Fraternity of the Dominican Laity.

Nancy moved to Rocky River in 2016 and embraced her new life! She became a member of Saint Christopher Parish and continued playing duplicate bridge in Cleveland. Nancy enjoyed yoga and swimming with her friends and caregiver Cynthia Cruz at the Presidential Apartment complex. Most of all, she loved being with her family who is grateful for the faith that she and her husband Joe passed onto them.

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 1 p.m. at St. Christopher Church, 20141 Detroit Ave. Rocky River, OH 44116. Private interment Calvary Cemetery, Youngstown, OH. Friends may call at St. Christopher Church starting at 12 noon on Thursday.
