Thomas C. Fifer

Class of 1964

In Memoriam

Below is the death notice of Thomas C. Fifer, Class of 1964. Please keep the Fifer family in your prayers.

We celebrate the life of Thomas Charles Fifer of Avon Lake, age 77. Tom passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 11, 2023. He is a graduate of St. Edward High School, class of 1964 and attended Kent State University. Tom proudly served his country through the US Marine Corps Reserves, followed by his formal training at the police academy. His 27 years of service to the Avon Lake Police Department remain some of the most favorable and poignant times of his life. Through the years, Tom has forged many strong friendships in the community. He was a man of principle and strong conviction. He considered social justice and his duty to serve and protect of the utmost importance. His strong faith and reverence carried him through life's joys as well as hardships throughout the years. Tom's talents may not have been widely known but include his strong love for his late wife, Nancy, children and grandchildren, quick wit and the occasional side dish of our favorite "enchanted beans" or "Papa's Soup." He enjoyed his shopping trips to BJ's to load his grandkids up with countless ice cream sandwiches, cheese popcorn and chocolate milk. Tom loved to perform secret acts of kindness like paying for someone else's order at McDonald's or delivering food to a daughter's refrigerator. Tom is preceded in death by his loving wife Nancy, and his parents Tom and Pauline Fifer. He is survived by his four dedicated children, Jennifer (Brian) Gibson of Columbus, OH, Amy (Nori) Okuma of Avon Lake, Stacey Fifer of Avon Lake and Matthew Fifer of Montréal, Quebec, six grandchildren whom he loved the most, Keegan, Emma, Owen, Abby, Alaina and Jack, and his siblings, Anne Heitz, Jeanne Baumann, Marcia Kramer, Tim Fifer, Lorraine Keeth, Ted Fifer and Joe Fifer and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held October 28, 2023, at St. Joseph Church 32929 Lake Rd. in Avon Lake at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends with a brief visitation at 9:00 a.m. in the church vestibule preceding the mass. A private burial will be held at a later date at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Avon. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Tom's name to the Cleveland Clinic Hospice organization. The family appreciates all of the love and support for Tom and all of his kids throughout the years. Condolences to the family can be made through: www.buschcares.com
